How to register a user on nicovideo.jp

Nicovideo.jp is basically Japanese youtube, but with a lot of differences.
Nicovideo is a great site where you can find a lot of different types of videos, most of them from Japan. New anime raw is probably the main reason for many to check this site out. Other highlights include Vocaloid songs and videos, boys and girls dancing/playing instruments in maid outfits, japanese game playthroughs, japanese tv- and radio-shows and much, much more.
You need an account to watch videos on nicovideo.jp, so just follow the instructions below to get an account☆
Register a nicovideo user
First, click this big red button:
and then fill this in:
You’ll see the terms of service at the bottom and you can just skip it and enter in the secret letter and press the button UNDER the box you type in the secret word. If you can’t read the secret word, the button to the right will give you a new one.
You’ll get a confirmation e-mail after this, so wait for it and then click the link in it to activate your account! You might have to wait a while after your account is activated though, since new users have a wait period and can’t get in when it’s Japanese prime-time. But the wait is worth it!
Comment on videos
The main difference between nicovideo and youtube is that the comments scroll by on the video you watch, like such:
You can of course shut the comments off if you are annoyed by them, but I find them part of the charm. The comments are also anonymous and they get removed for new ones after a certain amount. The concept is basically like anonymous BBS:s, like 2ch.net or 4chan.org.
Here are some explanations to help you understand the comments:
“wwwww” means “lolololololol”
“神” basically means awesome
“ktkr” basically means “omgomg”
“wktk” basically means “I’ve been waiting for this”
ざわざわ。。。means people mumbling, chatting.
Favorites
Now, lets imagine that you are in and browsing nicovideo and see something you want to save. This is where favorites come in. You need to create a favorite list by going into your user settings (マイページ on the top right), clicking “マイリスト一覧(新規作成・編集・削除” and then entering a name for the list in the text-box and clicking the button. You can add videos to your favorites by clicking this button:
Download a video
But wait, what if you want to download a video? That’s easy too!
Adding this as a bookmark will make downloading simple:

Remember that you have to have the page where the video is freshly loaded to be able to download it!

The rest of nicovideo.jp pretty straight forward, except for maybe uploading a movie of your own but I’ll add something about it later on!

I’m not sure what kind of help you seek. What’s the problem?
EDIT: I think that account signups are on a hold right now. You cannot get an account right now. You have to wait until they let people sign up again.

How do you turn off the messages running across the video screen? You say it’s possible but I don’t know how to do it. My Japanese is still very limited. ^^;
I’m also unsure what you meant by adding that java script to our bookmarks… *computer illiterate*

Click the little bird icon that says “Comments” under it to the right of the volume control to disable comments.
To add javascript to your bookmarks, first make a bookmark and then edit it to paste in that script where you write the address.
