Our beloved nicovideo.jp seems like they will finally add h.264 support tomorrow according to gigazine.net☆
This means that they will move from RC2 (release candidate 2) to SP1 (service pack 1?). What this means for the users is that everyone that has old versions of flash installed will need to update to be able to take part of the higher resolution movies.
Changes made:
You can now upload 4 Gb of files to smilevideo.jp
Files uploaded had before the maximum bitrate of 600Kbits, now they can have a maximum bitrate of 800Kbps
nicovideo.jp now accepts h.264 (MPEG-4 Part 10 AVC container) with mainline and baseline profiles and HE-AAC sound (44.1kHz/48.0kHz 32kbps~64kbps) and AAC-LC sound (4.1kHz/48.0kHz64kbps~96kbps). Keep the framrate constant since it seems like nicovideo can’t handle VFR right now.
The release of Nicovideo Movie Maker. The main download page seems to be down, so I linked the blog instead. You can create and upload movies directly in this program.
Blogs on So-net, trunc, はてなダイアリー & livedoor will be able to enjoy nicovideo without being logged in. They can’t comment though.
A whack-a-mole type of minigame + rankings
New users are now in “new user mode” and can watch videos about how to use nicovideo to make it easier for them to get started
And that’s about it!
Excellent updates for an excellent site☆
