The new Nicovideo player

There is a new beta video player at nicovideo for premium users only. It looks a bit different and behaves a bit different, but you’ll recognize most of it.

The new video player has a darker interface that reminds me a bit of iTunes, especially with its display-like clock. The icons used reminds me of nicovideo before the summer where the overall design of the site looked like it was hand-drawn on a napkin. I must say that this design is an improvement upon the earlier one.

Now to the new functions.
There are more ways to comment, especially if you are a premium user. You can for example now use the #xxyyzz variety of colour coding for all your comments. This opens for a lot of possibilities, especially if you’re good at comment art or AA. Oh and, the border between the command input and the comment input text-areas is in this version resizable. This is useful if you write long commands or comments.

The fullscreen player is has also improved. You can now choose if you want to have the player fullscreen within your browser or have it expand the video to the size of your display. I really appreciate this, especially for high quality videos.

And that’s about it for the updates.
Nicovideo users worldwide, you have something nice to look forward to now since I really think this new player will improve the whole experience, if even just a little☆
