Nicovideo to remove copyrighted content

Date July 3, 2008

Nico Nico Douga has come to an agreement with The Association of Japanese Animations (AJA), Japan Video Software Association (JVA), and Motion Picture Producers Association of Japan (MPPA) to remove vids that are in violation of copyright belonging to members of these organizations.

This means that all fan-made videos that involve copyrighted material will be deleted and they agreed to scurry the uploads for such content. How nicovideo will survive this is the big question, since the site is pretty much built upon AMVs and other videos where copyrighted content has been remixed. It’s a sad day for a great videosite.

Archive your favorites from nicovideo before it’s too late.
