Macne Nana – OS X UTAU software

Ever wanted to play with vocaloid software but own a mac? Didn’t want to bother with VMWare or Bootcamp? This is for you! Macne Nana is now released for Garageband and Reason!

Ikezawa Haruna

Macne Nana is basically a UTAU:ish software that uses a voice-actresses voice as an instrument in Reason or Garageband. The voice in question is Ikezawa Haruna’s (池澤春菜姫), famous as Yoshino in Marimite and Foxy in KOF.

Macne Nana is different from UTAU and the Vocaloid software as it doesn’t come with its own program and instead relies on already mainstream and widely used programs. You import the plugin in Reason or the .aiff files in Garageband and there you go, a basic vocaloid for all your japanese song-creating needs.

The software comes in two varieties. Macne Nana and Macne Nana Petit. The Petit version doesn’t come with the Reason plugin. They both cost 2,980 JPY and 980 JPY and can be bought as a download from Act2.

Here is maybe the first ok Macne Nana song ever:

UPDATE:
I bought Macne Nana (using the Reason 4 plugin) and it’s fun to use. The problem is that you can’t input kana and instead regulate what she says with this modulator marked in red:

Macne Nana in Reason4

It’s quite intuitive after a while, but I admit that I miss the kana input from the normal vocaloid programs.
But, this is a big but, Reason is a lot more stable as a program and it’s really fun to use. Comparing the Vocaloid 02 program to Reason isn’t possible since they do totally different things. First things first, Vocaloid is a japanese program which means that it’s crappy as default. The user interface is terrible and the design is beyond help. Miku has no keyboard shortcuts either, which makes it horrible to use in long sessions. Reason is a totally different beast. It’s well designed, easy to use and very advanced if you want it to be. Well worth the € 500 pricetag.

You can use the Macne Nana Petit Garageband .aiff files in UTAU by the way. You just have to convert the files and rename them.
There is a great guide here.

Those links are helpful when buying it, but how do you make the text inside the program English (such as in http://moemania.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/macnenana-reason.png )? Is there a button of some sort?

here is a snapshot of what it looks like in japanese: http://www.act2.com/skin/frontend/default/default/products/macnenana/7screenshot_01_620.jpg (it might help in some way, IDK)

It already was in english when I got it. Those buttons basically doesn’t do anything anyway.

I say: HEY DESU where did you get yours? I’ve been searching the internet for Nana… my parents said if I found a place where I can get her they might get her for me on my birthday but I can’t find her! T_T

She can be bought as a download from Act2: http://www.act2.com/products/macnenana.html

Note that you have to have Garageband or Reason 4 for OS X to get this to work.

So wait….You can download the english version from that website? Is there anything you have to do when you buy it to get the english version? I’m confused….My mom says she’s going to get it for me, but only if I can actually use it…and I don’t really think I can use it if it’s in Japanese…. D:>

  8. desu said:

There is only one version and that was in english for me. I can’t guarantee anything though, so avoid getting it if you are this indecisive.

  9. dade said:

What is the difference between the full version and the petite version other than not having a plug in for Reason? Does the full version have more features regardless? Thanks.

  10. desu said:

The difference is just the Reason plugin which is pretty sweet. If you only plan to use her in UTAU or Garageband, go for the petit version.
