So you’ve been to nicovideo.jp and watched some videos, become amazed with the vocaloid songs and wondered if that person dancing is a boy… or if it really is a girl.

You have also seen all of the interesting ways people comment. Sometimes they frame things and sometimes they just put a “!” over someone’s head and it’s all-and-all pretty much fun to watch. But how do they do it?

This post will try to explain the basics about nicovideo commenting.

Basic commenting:
Non-paying members of nicovideo have these colours to play with:

nicovideo colours

and everyone can specify the position the text at the top and the bottom. The text will position itself if not specified.

You specify colour and position in this textbox:

nico specify box

and you have some shortcuts if you press the green button to the left of the box, like thus:

nicovideo shortcutbox

The positions:
Up, above: ue
Down, subtitles: shita

Example of how you can use the commands:

nico specify shita pink

which gives you this result:

nico specify shita pink result

And that’s about it for basic commenting.
