Hatsune Miku becomes even more real
May 19, 2008
You may remember Hatsune Miku, which is one of the Vocaloids from Yamahas synthesized voice programs that can create songs where a girl sings whatever you make her sing. Her voice has now become even more real with the help of VocaListner.
A real singing voice has a lot of quirks and a perfect pitch doesn’t sound real at all. People making music using the vocaloid software often has trouble adapting the software synthesizer so that all those quirks, such as breath, mouth opening and tremolo sounds like a real person singing, since it is a lot of hard work.

Vocalistner is a program that takes a fingerprint from someone’s voice adapts the vocaloid, in this case Miku, to that fingerprint. This makes the vocaloid mimik how the voice sounds and therefor make it sound more realistic, as in the video above.
Vocalistner can also be used with older vocaloid software, such as KAITO and Meiko. These voices are a bit more primitive, which makes it hard to get that “real” feeling, but they are easier to use than Miku or the Kagamine sibblings.

I still haven’t seen Vocalistner being used with the Kagamine sibblings yet, but I am sure that we will hear more about this technology after the 128th Human-Computer Interaction Workshop, which takes place from May 28-29.

It is really impressive what people have done with this voice synthesizer in such a short time. The VocaListner makes Miku and the other vocaloids sound uncanningly real with voice fingerprinting and other advanced technology. Also the fans seem to love the Vocaloids; at some point there were over 200 new fanimages per day on one imageboard.
We can only look forward to the future! Maybe there wont be any need for idols anymore since MikuMiku/RinRin Dance and the Vocaloid software can do the work☆
Here is my favorite song using this new technology, Hatsune Miku with Fuita Hana:
