Valentines day in Japan started for real in 1953 for promoting the giving of heart-shaped chocolates. It has since then evolved into a big commercial event for couples, people in love and candy-makers where chocolate is bought, melted, formed, given and taken. nlike western countries, gifts such as greeting cards,flowers, etc are uncommon, and most of the activity about the gifts is about giving the right amount of chocolate to each person. There is chocolate you give to your friends, your family and your loved ones.
I imagine people without friends and family being quite depressed this day, as other japanese holidays (cough xmas cough) but don’t feel bad, there is a place for you too! Many maid cafés have specials this day so you and your friends can feel loved☆
Touhou M-1 Grand Prix is a comedy show by the doujin group いえろ～ぜぶら (Yellow Zebra). It consists of comedy skits with touhou characters that are voiced and drawn by the doujin group.
The comedy show is a yearly event that mimics the TV show M-1 Grand prix. It gets more and more popular for every year and some say that they would rather watch this than the comedy skits on TV since they can relate to Touhou better.
Pixiv is a very popular site where artists and lovers of art upload their drawn creations, from sketches to manga, and let the community comment on them. It’s not very different from deviant art, except that the community is mostly japanese and therefor not complete idiots.
The Pixiv community uses tags like nicovideo and the whole database is quite easily filtered to find exactly. what. you. need:

They have since june 2009 1 million members, over 4.9 million submissions, and receives over 15,000 submissions per day. Pretty amazing stuff.
Pixiv have now recently released Pixiv chat (β) where users can draw and chat together in real time. The interface is really good and provides a nice workspace for ideas and collaborations. Fans that don’t want to draw can just sit and watch, browse the chat area and of course, comment on the work.
It is flash based which means that it is quite heavy to load and the computer processor has to work hard to make it run.
You can start your own chat room if you are a member. Just go to your chat page and you’ll find a button for it. There you can also see the chats you’ve visited before and even replay them.
That is a question I often ask users on nicovideo. The more time I spend there, the more videos I watch, the more I realize how crazy this little world really is. There are cosplayers that dance in the wild, there are professionalmusicians that crossplay and there are people who draw stuff like this:
