Weekly moe: Zettai ryouiki (絶対領域)

Zettai ryouiki is one of my absolute favorite moe. It’s not because it can apply to both 2D and 3D characters. It’s not because it has a huge fan-base. It’s not because it’s so hot.
It’s because it’s so absolutely precise!
What is zettai ryouiki? Well, it is quite difficult to understand, so let us take a look at what others say before I myself comment on it!☆

Zettai Ryōiki (絶対領域?) is an anime/manga related term for describing the area of bare skin exposed on the thighs between the skirt and socks for female characters.The socks are preferably over the knee type. It is a common Tsundere/Meido attribute.

Yes, zettai ryouiki is a measurement of how much skin there is exposed between the socks and the skirt! And a very precise one, following the ratio of 4:1:2.5 (length of mini-skirt : absolute territory : length of overknee socks above the knee)! THIS. This is why I love this moe. Zettai ryouiki, the absolute zone (which is my preferred translation), is all about the framing of the bare skin of a persons (traps included) leg between the miniskirt and the thigh-highs.

My theory about the absolute zone is all about framing. The absolute zone is desired, playful and it’s also forbidden. Because clothes are, just like a frame for a picture, generally made to first to be functional (as protection against the weathers) and second to make the person look good. Zettai ryouiki is also about framing, of the zone. Your eyes will be drawn to the zone because of the frame consisting of the miniskirt and the thigh-highs, and therefore you’ll lust after what’s hidden there.
Moe, is according to a lot of people, not about lust, but I dissent. Moe is all about lust, as all fandom is. The absolute zone is the same. We lust after the zone, or rather, what’s hidden in the zone, and therefor it exists, as a bait, as to make us hunger for it.
